COMMUTERS are being advised not to travel by train tomorrow as "damage and obstruction" could be caused by Storm Eunice.

Sussex has been issued with an amber weather warning for wind from 5am to 9pm tomorrow, with wind gusts of up to 80mph expected in some places.

Southern Rail and Thameslink have strongly advised people to travel today or on Saturday, as winds are "expected to cause damage and obstruction on the railway".

The rail operators also said 50mph speed restrictions will be in place across most of their network tomorrow.

Network Rail have also advised people to reconsider travel plans for tomorrow.

"High winds can lead to trees and debris being blown onto train lines, which can block trains and cause delays and cancellations," they warned.

Gatwick Airport have also said there is the possibility of disruption to flights and the airport's shuttle service to the north terminal between 10am and 4pm tomorrow, and encouraged flyers to arrive earlier.

The advice comes after a rare red weather warning was issued for parts of southern Wales and southwest England, with the Met Office warning of "significant disruption and dangerous conditions".
