A COURT case had to be adjourned as the 72-year-old defendant was “on a boat in Tunisia”.

Christopher Mackins is accused of speeding on the A24 at West Grinstead, near Horsham, on February 26, 2021, and failing to give his ID to police in Shoreham on June 24 last year.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges and was due to appear in court on Tuesday.

However, Mackins, of Riverside Walk, Crawley, was not present due to “confusing information emailed to him” about appearing via a video link.

According to court documents, Mackins is now on a boat in Tunisia.

The case will now be heard on May 16 at Brighton Magistrates Court.
