THIS is how to report a fallen tree and other hazards on the road during Storm Eunice.

People are being urged to stay home, and train services are being cancelled, after the Met Office issued the highest level of alert for Storm Eunice.

Amber warnings for wind, the second highest alert level, are in place across Sussex from 3am to 9pm today, while there are also yellow weather warnings.

Storm winds of up to 100mph could batter the city in gusts that are predicted to be the strongest since 2013.

The Met Office said there is a risk of “flying debris resulting in danger to life” and “damage to buildings and homes, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down”.

Brighton and Hove City Council is urging drivers to report any hazards, including fallen trees and power lines, during Storm Eunice.

Who should I call?

People are told to only contact 999 if a fallen tree or a hazard is deemed to be a “immediate danger.”

To report other debris and damage, use the numbers below.

• Dangerous structures, fallen trees and lampposts in Brighton & Hove 01273 292 229

• Damaged telephone lines and poles 0800 023 2023

• UK Power Network 0800 316 3105

The Energy Networks Association has also offered safety advice ahead of the storms.

Spokesman Ross Easton said: “It’s really important to stay safe when bad weather hits. If you come across fallen power lines or damage to the electricity network, stay well clear and call 105 for free to report it. If there is an immediate risk to life or someone is in danger, dial 999.”

With the storm looming, rail and air passengers are being urged to expect disruption.

A Network Rail spokesman said disruption is “inevitable” and has urged rail users not to travel.

Gatwick Airport said passengers expecting to fly should arrive at the airport early.

The “do not travel” message has been echoed by emergency services across the country, including East Sussex (ESFRS) and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (WSFRS), Sussex Police and Brighton RNLI.
