The pier said it will monitor the weather closely and will decide which parts of the pier to open.

A spokeswoman said: “The Brighton Palace Pier will monitor the weather situation closely and will act accordingly. We have plans in place to cope with all types of weather. The health and safety of our customers is of paramount importance and we will make a decision in the morning on which parts of the pier we will open.”

Royal Botanic Gardens Wakehurst in Ardingly will be closing its doors.

In an email to customers, it said: “Due to severe weather, Kew Gardens and Wakehurst will be closed tomorrow, Friday February 18.

“This isn’t a decision we’ve taken lightly. We always put the safety of our staff and visitors first, and that is why we’ve decided to close the gardens. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.

“The situation will be closely monitored and the gardens will reopen to visitors as soon as it is safe to do so. Please check our website for the latest updates.”

The Royal Pavilion and Museums Trust in Brighton said it will be keep a close eye on the state of its buildings during the storm

People living in Brighton are being urged to stay away from the seafront.
