RESIDENTS would rather relive the day they met their partner over the day their child was born, a study has revealed.

According to the study by Ryman, more than one in four people in Brighton (26.3 per cent) said they would want to relive that moment - more than four per cent higher than the national average.

The birth of a child was much lower than the national average at only 23 per cent, with a holiday of a lifetime, the day they got a pet and a family holiday from childhood in joint third place with 17.5 per cent.

These were all higher than their wedding day at 14 per cent.

However, 10.5 per cent of Brighton residents said there was no moment they would like to relive.

Chloe Danskin from Ryman said: "Our experiences and memories are what makes us, us, and as we move through life, although there are plenty of encounters that differ, there are many core experiences we share. However, they do have different places in our hearts – as our research suggests.

"What’s interesting about respondents from Brighton is that they are the only ones to buck the trend, stating that the first time they met their partner is their most cherished moment, over the birth of their child or children – which topped the list in all other cities we polled.

"That being said, Brightonians’ would rather re-experience the day they got their beloved pet over their wedding day, perhaps highlighting an increase in sentimentality around ‘firsts’."

On a national level, almost a third of Brits (32.7 per cent) would want to relive the birth of their children, followed by a holiday of a lifetime (24.2 per cent), with the first time they met their partner third at 22.2 per cent.

The study also found that those aged 55 and over are the least likely to want to relive a day or moment in their past, while those aged 25 to 34 were the most likely to want to re-experience a memory.

Women were found to be slightly more sentimental than men, with 90 per cent of women wanting to relive a moment compared to 87.8 per cent of men.

More than one in ten men (10.9 per cent) said they want to relive the moment their favourite team won a coveted trophy - higher than the day they got engaged, achieving a lifelong ambition or the day they bought their first property.

By contrast, almost one in five women (18.2 per cent) said they would want to relive the day they found out they were having a baby - compared to just 6.4 per cent of men.
