FALLEN trees and telegraph poles are leading to road disruption in parts of Sussex as strong winds hit.

Cars are being stopped in their tracks as trees have fallen across carriageways.

Pictures show a Range Rover narrowly escaping being crushed in Cleveland Road, Brighton.

The tree can be seen blocking the entire street.

Another vehicle has been blocked along the C7 Lewes Road at Piddinghoe, Lewes.

A telegraph pole has also come down leading to the A22 Hailsham bypass at Arlington Road West to be partially blocked.

A tree has come down on the road up to the railway in East Grinstead.

Further disruption has been caused along the A267 from Cross-in-Hand to Frant.

Roads are continuing to close this afternoon as more trees come down across the county. 

This shocking picture shows a tree that has split down the middle, with the branches now blocked the carriageway.

It comes after Sussex Police issued a warning earlier today.

They said: "Expect significant disruption and dangerous conditions.

"Avoid non-essential journeys. Flying debris & falling trees are likely."
