PASSENGERS on an easyJet flight from Bordeaux were forced to return to the French city after the plane had to abort its landing at Gatwick Aiport.
EasyJet flight 8014 attempted to land twice at the airport before being put in a holding pattern over the south coast and returning to Bordeaux due to the adverse weather from Storm Eunice.
It touched down back at its starting point more than three hours after it departed, with the airline telling passengers: "We’re very sorry that your flight has now been diverted back to Bordeaux.
"This is due to poor weather conditions in London Gatwick, which are below safe operating limits."
Many flights have been struggling to land as London and south east England is hit by gusts of up to 80mph.
Gatwick Airport have reported 15 cancellations and some 67 delayed flights.
A red weather warning for wind remains in place across Sussex until 3pm this afternoon, with the public urged to stay indoors.
Train services have been badly disrupted by the storm, trees have fallen across the county and thousands have been left without power.
