THE PUBLIC are being urged not to travel amid major train disruptions in the aftermath of Storm Eunice.

Millions experienced severe disruption as record-breaking winds caused huge structural damage, transport chaos and widespread power cuts across Sussex.

On Saturday, Southern Rail announced that no trains are able to run on the following routes:

- Bexhill, Hastings and Ashford

- Redhill and Tonbridge

- Epsom Downs and Belmont

- Tattenham Corner and London

Trains are also unable to call at the following stations:

- Chichester

- Battersea Park

- Ockley (towards Horsham)

Brighton and Hove Albion and Southern Rail are urging football fans to find alternative travel plans for today's match against Burnley.

"Fans planning to travel to today’s match by train are strongly advised to consider alternative travel plans as train services across the region have been severely affected by storm Eunice," an Albion spokesman said.

"Southern Rail are advising customers not to travel.

"The rail companies are working hard in an attempt to restore some services, but we do not expect a usual matchday service to be in operation."

Eastbourne station is also closed until further notice.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said that the public should expect disruption for the rest of the day after Storm Eunice.

"Teams have been working through the night to try to get road and rail reopened," he said.

"But of course, expect disruption today - trains are in the wrong locations, there's still debris being removed from our roads, airports are expected to be very busy with people catching up with flights.

"So, expect disruption, do check before you travel, but things are returning to normal."
