DESPITE the wet and windy conditions, fans turned out in their thousands to watch Albion take on Burnley at the Amex.

Graham Potter’s side suffered their heaviest defeat of the season to a Burnley side who started the day bottom of the Premier League table.

Brighton and Hove Albion fans didn’t have much to cheer about, going 1-0 down inside 20 minutes through the visitor’s new star striker Wout Weghorst.

And things went from bad to worse for Albion after Josh Brownhill’s deflected strike trickled past a helpless Robert Sánchez.

Some Albion fans made their way to the exits after 34-year-old Aaron Lennon fired Burnley into a 3-0 lead with 20 minutes left to play.

Brighton had 11 shots at goal, but only one on target. They also had 69 per cent possession.

After selling Dan Burn to his boyhood club Newcastle United, Potter’s side struggled at the back without the suspended Lewis Dunk and injured Adam Webster.

This was Burnley’s first away win of the season.

Albion sit in ninth place in the Premier League table on 33 points.

They next face Aston Villa at the Amex stadium on Saturday, February 26.

Steven Gerrard’s side are currently six points behind Albion with a game in hand.
