AN ELDERLY couple have died in a house fire.
The man and woman in their 70s were found in the property in Theobalds Road, Burgess Hill, by emergency services on Sunday morning.
Police said an investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fatal fire.
The next of kin have been informed by the coroner, a police spokesman said.
"Emergency services were called to reports of a house fire in Theobalds Road in Burgess Hill shortly after midnight on Sunday, February 20,” the spokesman said.
"Police attended to support the fire service, and two people – a man and a woman in their 70s - were sadly found dead at the scene.
"Their next of kin have been informed.”
The Coroner’s Office has been notified and work is underway to establish the full circumstances of the situation.
