A ZOO may be forced to stay closed after a power outage as Storm Franklin batters the south coast.

Drusillas Park near Alfriston announced that staff are doing everything they can to be able to open but that there is a chance they may not be able to open today as a result of the power failure.

People with pre-booked tickets can rearrange their visit for a different day by emailing info@drusillas.co.uk, but said "don't expect a reply today as we cannot access our systems".

"Cross your fingers for us," the park said in a post on Facebook.

UK Power Networks said that 64 customers are affected in the area after a power cut was reported around 1am this morning.

Power is currently estimated to be restored in the area tomorrow at around 4pm.

Thousands of homes across Sussex remain without power as a result of Storm Eunice last week, with 4,500 properties across the county still facing outages.

Some residents have been told power may not be restored until Wednesday.

A yellow weather warning for wind remains in place across most of England until 1pm this afternoon as Storm Franklin brings gusts of up to 70mph in some places.

Southern Rail and Thameslink have urged commuters not to travel today on services south of London due to the adverse weather conditions, with a 50mph speed restriction in place on all train services until 4pm.

A statement from the companies said: "Staff are expecting heavy delays and cancellations to the service - no replacement transport will be available."

Tickets for today will be accepted on services tomorrow at no extra cost.

Bus services are currently unaffected by the storm - the third named storm to hit the UK in the space of a week.
