THOUSANDS of runners have signed up for the Brighton Half Marathon this weekend.

The annual race is due to take place on Sunday, February 27.

The 2022 event, organised by The Sussex Beacon charity, is the 32nd Brighton Half Marathon.

The 13.1 mile race begins at 9am on Madeira Drive before runners pass a host of landmarks including the Brighton Palace Pier, Royal Pavilion and Brighton Marina.

Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes MBE has been announced as the race starter.

Here are ten facts about the Brighton Half Marathon:

1. As a charity-organised race, the event also raises over £1 million for other charitable causes each year

2. The course record is 1:04:56, set by Paul Navesey in 2019

3. 56 per cent men and 44 per cent women running in 2022

4. In the early days of the event, the race started and finished in Asda carpark in Brighton Marina

5. David Knight was the first ever winner of the race, in 67 minutes

6. The Wheelchair Race was added to the event in 2016

7. 145 radios are used by the team across the event

8. There are an average 2,000-2,500 steps in a mile

9. Olympian Charlie Grice won the Youth Races in 2009. The Youth Races will return in 2023.
