A 63-year-old man has been given a suspended prison sentence after he was found with an offensive weapon at a train station.

Alexander Miles-Jones, of Ambrose Place, Worthing, was handed a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, after pleading guilty at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Jones was found with a rock in a sock, which is considered to be an offensive weapon, at Gravesend railway station in Kent on February 1 last year.

He was also given a 12-week suspended sentence for harassment in relation to the same incident.

He pleaded guilty to the offence, which the court said was found to be a “racially aggravated” act against a public servant.

Jones has been ordered to have a treatment for alcohol dependency, under the director of a nomination provider for six months, and attend appointments with a responsible officer.

He will pay £50 in compensation, an £128 surcharge and costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
