A TRESPASSER on the railway tracks is causing train delays.

Southern Rail said the incident is causing disruption and delays between Redhill and Gatwick Airport.

As a result, trains are running at a lower speed than usual as a “safety precaution”.

At 6.30pm on Friday, February 25, a Southern Rail spokeswoman said: “There's a trespasser on the railway between Redhill and Gatwick Airport.

“Emergency services have been deployed to site.

“This means trains are having to run at a slower speed than usual as a safety precaution.

“There's no need to change your travel plans but you'll need to allow up to an extra 10 minutes to complete your journey.”

This incident is causing disruption to trains between:

  • London Victoria and Three Bridges
  • London Victoria and Brighton via Horsham
  • London Victoria and Portsmouth/Southampton/Bognor

Earlier in the day, a lorry crashed into a railway bridge causing major train disruptions.

The vehicle crashed into the bridge near Barnham at about 10.07am.

Southern Rail announced that due to the incident, trains were forced to run at a reduced speed while going through the area.

By 11.05am, the disruption had been cleared.

The lorry crashed followed further disruptions to the railway overnight.

At about 11.35pm on Thursday, February 24, a train has hit “an obstruction on the line” between Chichester and Portsmouth Harbour.

Southern Rail announced the line was blocked as a result.

“If you are at a station between Portsmouth Harbour and Chichester or if you need assistance with onward travel, please speak to station staff or press the green help point button,” a Southern Rail spokeswoman said.

By 2.17am on Friday, February 25, the disruption had been cleared.
