A FOX was rescued after getting stuck in a fence.
East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service rescuers were called following reports of a fox caught in a fence in Lewes Road, Laughton.
Crew members Trevor Weeks, Ellie Langridge and Sandra Furner arrived to find a fox with its body twisted and a rear leg entangled in stock fencing.
The rescuers said they had to be careful approaching and securing the fox as it was still “lively and very frightened”.
After approaching from either side, Ellie and Sandra were able to secure the fox and cut it free from the wire.
The fox was then lowered into a transportation cage and carried back to the waiting ambulance.
At East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service centre, lead casualty manager Katie Nunn Nash examined the fox.
Initially, it was thought the fox may have had a dislocated leg, but an X-ray revealed that not to be the case. The fox was given pain relief and antibiotics.
The following morning, a vet anaesthetized the fox so that a wound on its rear leg could be better examined, surgically cleaned and sutured.
“The fox is in the clear yet and only time will tell how much pressure necrosis will need dealing with, but we have our fingers crossed he will fully recover” said Katie.
