THE owner of a garden filled with “rare” magnolia trees said he cannot wait to welcome visitors as the season starts.

The 100-year-old trees are starting to flower early this year at Borde Hill garden near Haywards Heath.

Andrew John Stephenson Clarke, 66, current family owner of the garden, said people can come for a tour between March 29 and April 5 to find out more about the dozens of magnolia trees.

The hour-long tour is being led by Harry Baldwin, head of horticulture at Borde Hill, who will “highlight the most magnificent of the magnolias and bring to life the story of their origins.”

He will also explain how the future of Borde Hill's historic tree and shrub collection will continue to develop into the 21st century.

Andrew said: “We are delighted to be sharing our impressive collection of magnolias with visitors both local and those who travel from around the world to enjoy our rare plants and trees, and we are working hard to protect the collection for generations to come.”
