A RESTAURANT was improved following a low hygiene rating.

Blue India, in High Street, Billinghurst, was given a one out of five rating by the Food Standards Agency, following an inspection on Monday, 7 February.

The score means “major improvements are necessary”, according to the agency.

The Indian restaurant was issued the second-lowest score, despite their chef having “travelled the world as chef to the President of India”, according to their website.

Since the visit, Blue India has been re-inspected, and achieved four out of five.

Businesses with ratings of one or below must take urgent action to improve their practise ahead of reinspection.

It comes as The Five Bells Inn, in Smock Alley, West Chillington, was issued a three out of five rating after inspection on Tuesday, 8 February, and Browns Lane Pre-School, Storrington, was given the top score of five on February 1.

Inspections take place between every six months to three years, dependent on the potential risk posed by the business.

Following inspection, businesses are given a sticker which shows their rating. They are encouraged to display in their entrance, to allow potential customers to decide if they would like to purchase food from there.
