A GIRL was attacked on a bus.

The young girl was assaulted by a man in an unprovoked attack, as she travelled on the number 5 bus for Patcham, northbound, along London Road, Brighton.

At approximately 5pm on Monday, March 7, the man, who had been sitting nearby, assaulted her then left the bus at the next stop, near Preston Park.

The man was described as a black man, in his 30s, wearing a black camouflage top and jeans.

The girl visited hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

Investigating officer, PC Marc Donnelly, said: “This was a disturbing, unprovoked assault on a young girl along a busy bus route in the middle of the afternoon.

“This appears to be an isolated incident and I would like to reassure the public that there is no wider risk of harm.

“There are sure to have been witnesses who can help with our investigation and we would ask anybody who can help to contact us online or by calling 101, quoting serial 901 of 07/03.”

A spokeswoman from Brighton and Hove bus service said: "We are helping the police with their investigations into an incident which took place on a route 5 bus on Monday, March 7."
