TWO huge loads each weighing more than 300 tonnes are set to cause miles of traffic delays when they're moved across the county.

The essential national grid equipment, measuring over 70 metres in length, will be taken 41 miles from Shoreham Docks to Ninfield Substation.

But due to the massive job of moving the huge equipment, significant traffic disruption and long delays are expected across the A27 on Saturday, March 19.

The A27 will be closed between Ashcombe and Southerham roundabouts with traffic diverted via the A270, A259 and A26.

There will be parking restrictions in Polegate and advance warning signs to remind drivers when the restrictions will be in place.

Sussex Police officers will also hold traffic if required to allow safe passage of the vehicles.

An East Sussex Highways spokesman said: "The route has been planned to allow the safe passage of the vehicles within the county.

"We know that this will have an impact on the traffic and parking in your area but this is unavoidable and we apologise for any inconvenience in advance of the National Grid movement.

"There will be a variety of measures to ensure safe passage through the streets, including the removal of street furniture, parking restrictions and the temporary holding of traffic by the Police, if required."

The vehicles will be leaving Shoreham Docks at 9am and it is planned that they will arrive at Polegate between 5pm to 6pm, then heading to Bexhill before arriving at Ninfield between 7pm to 8pm.
