THE DEATH of a man who died after being hit by a train is not being treated as suspicious by police.  

His body was found on the tracks near Eastbourne Station at 8.48pm on Saturday, March 12.

British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed the man, who was hit by a train, was dead when emergency services arrived at the scene.

“This incident is not being treated as suspicious,” a BTP spokesman said.

“And a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The man’s next of kin has been informed.

Following the fatality, BTP said: "British Transport Police were alerted to a report of a person being struck by a train near to Eastbourne Railway Station at 8.48pm on Saturday.

"Officers attended the location with other emergency service partners where unfortunately a person was found to be deceased on the railway.”

Paramedics and firefighters also attended the scene.

Train lines were completely blocked while emergency workers attended and did not reopen fully until the early hours of Sunday morning.

Passengers were advised not to travel due to long delays and cancellations to services.
