A WOMAN has died after being hit by a car on the M23.

Police were called to the motorway between junction eight and nine, near Gatwick Airport, following reports of an individual on the carriageway.

A woman died at the scene.

Her family have been informed and are receiving support, according to police.

The motorway was temporarily closed as a result of the incident shortly before 1am on Monday, March 14, but was reopened at around 6am.

“Enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances around her death,” a police spokesman said.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have been passing through the area at the time or have dashcam footage to contact us.”
