HSBC has announced that dozens of its branches across the UK are set to close their doors in 2022.
Three branches from Sussex are on the list with the Uckfield, East Grinstead, and Burgess Hill branches being axed this summer.
The East Grinstead HSBC will be the first of the Sussex branches to go on August 2, 2022.
This is followed by the Uckfield branch on August 11, while Burgess Hill will stay open for slightly longer before closing on September 13.
The move, which could hit around 400 workers across the 69 branches set to close, is the latest in a flurry of closure announcements by the UK’s biggest banks.
In January last year, HSBC announced 82 previous closures.
It comes as the bank has made a move to focus more on online banking due to changes in modern banking habits, with fewer than 50 per cent of customers using physical branches.
Jackie Uhi, head of HSBC UK’s branch network, said: “The way people bank is changing – something the pandemic has accelerated.
“Our branches continue to support people with their more complex banking needs, but the way we can do this has also evolved, with the addition of banking hubs, community pop ups and continued use of the Post Office network.
“Rather than a one-size-fits-all branch approach, it’s an approach built around the way different customers are choosing to bank in different areas.”
