A WOMAN has asked “why me?” after her tyres were deflated by a group of environmental activists, making her late for work.
Michelle Fox, 55, had the tyres of her Honda CR-V SUV deflated on Monday night while it was parked in Bernard Road, just off Elm Grove, in Brighton.
As she was getting ready to leave for her late shift at Co-op in Seven Dials, Michelle found that two of her tyres had been let down and a leaflet stating “your gas guzzler kills” placed on her windscreen.
She said: “I read the note, and you can imagine, my language was quite colourful in the middle of the street because I needed to get to work.
“I didn’t know how to react, so I phoned the police and I had to walk to work, which took me around 40 minutes.
“They tyres had been deflated so much, and because the car was tilted, the pump did nothing and I had to pay someone to fix the problem.
“I had to get a taxi home from work because I didn’t want to walk home alone at 11pm at night.”
Michelle had to pay £28 to have her tyres inflated and £8 for her taxi home from work.
She said that while the actions of the Tyre Extinguishers caused her to be “inconvenienced”, she is concerned that the group could “put someone in danger”.
She said: “I just thought ‘why me?’ you know. It was just so inconvenient, but these activists don’t know who owns these cars.
“I could have had a hospital appointment or I could have a disabled child who I needed to take to school.
“Both my parents have got Covid at the moment and I need to be on call because they are isolating.
“We all know that climate change is an issue, but this isn’t the way to go about it.”
Michelle said three other cars in Bernard Road were also targeted.
Sussex Police have launched an investigation and say several lines of enquiry are being explored.
The majority of the incidents in the city under investigation happened overnight on the weekend of March 7 and 8, according to police
