EMPLOYEES of a digital marketing company took the plunge in the chilly sea to raise more than £1,000 for the YMCA.

The activity by nine workers at Brighton-based Oban International was part of a series of events organised by the company, dubbed the ‘Oban Chilly Challenge’.

Along with a cold dip in the sea, one employee joined thousands in running the Brighton half marathon for the YMCA Downslink Group (DLG).

Sophie Ruane-Lewis, who was one of the sea swimmers and helped organise the event, said: “Oban International has supported YMCA DLG for four years now, and it’s a cause that is close to all our hearts.

“As a young person, I’ve never experienced life without a home or support from my family and it’s hard to imagine just how difficult that would feel.

“It’s distressing to know that these challenges affect so many young people in our community every single day.

“That’s why I think the work of YMCA DLG is so important.

“It’s a great organisation, giving young people opportunities and supporting them to independence.”

YMCA DLG works to prevent youth homelessness across Sussex and neighbouring Surrey, providing accommodation to more than 750 young people every night who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Employees at Oban are continuing their fundraising efforts with an internal chilli tasting challenge at the end of this month.
