A MAN has been found dead at the base of a cliff.

Emergency services were called to the cliffs near Eastbourne after concerns from an individual’s welfare.

Police said the coastguard conducted a search of the area and located the body of a man.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing, but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances,” a Sussex Police spokesman said.

The incident happened at about 9.45pm on Sunday, March 20.

The RNLI Eastbourne said a volunteer crew were paged at about 10.10pm.

They were requested to launch their inshore lifeboat and tasked to assist police, local coastguards and the coastguard rescue helicopter with the incident east of the Belle Tout Lighthouse.

“There will be no further details due to the sensitive nature of the call,” a spokesman said.
