FATBOY SLIM has released a promo video ahead of his huge performance on Brighton beach this summer – and The Argus plays a starring role.

DJ Norman Cook, who lives in Hove, is to headline the On the Beach festival in Brighton on Friday, July 22.

His performance will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Big Beach Boutique concert.

In a promotional video, Fatboy sits on a deckchair on Brighton beach reading a copy of the Argus from July 2002, which included an eight-pages of photos from his huge performance.

A caption posted alongside the video reads: “20 years went by in a flash. We return to the beach in Brighton on Friday, July 2022. This time, it’s a strictly ticketed event.”

Tickets for Fatboy’s On the Beach performance will be released during an exclusive pre-sale at 10am on Wednesday, March 30, with a general sale to follow at 1pm.

An event spokesman said: "On The Beach are incredibly proud to announce a brand new addition to their 2022 Brighton Beach festival series; Fatboy Slim’s Big Beach Boutique.

"Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the most iconic dance event in modern history, Fatboy Slim will be returning to Brighton Beach to salute the biggest free party to ever take place on British soil - changing the UK’s musical landscape forever."

More than 250,000 concert goers gathered on Brighton Beach on July 13, 2002, for Fatboy’s Beach Botique 2.

It has been described as the “biggest event Sussex has ever seen”.

The crowd was more than four times the expected size, and at the time, doubled Brighton’s population.

A year earlier, about 40,000 people attended the first of the Big Beach Boutique events.

Big Beach Boutique 5 was held at The Amex, with two gigs on consecutive nights in June 2012.

But it was the 2002 event which attracted record-breaking crowds.

Earlier this week, Fatboy, 58, launched an appeal to find the Hawaiian shirt he wore at the gig so it can be displayed in an anniversary exhibition.
