FATBOY Slim has announced he is to perform a second show as the headline act for a huge music festival on the beach.

Norman Cook, who lives in Hove, is to headline the On the Beach festival in Brighton on Friday, July 22, and the newly announced date of Thursday, July 21.

His performance will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Big Beach Boutique concert, described as the “biggest event Sussex has ever seen”.

Tickets will be released during an exclusive pre-sale at 10am on Wednesday, March 30, with a general sale to follow at 1pm.

Organisers said the second date has been added “due to phenomenal demand”.

"On The Beach are incredibly proud to announce a brand new addition to their 2022 Brighton Beach festival series; Fatboy Slim’s Big Beach Boutique,” organisers previously said.

"Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the most iconic dance event in modern history, Fatboy Slim will be returning to Brighton Beach to salute the biggest free party to ever take place on British soil - changing the UK’s musical landscape forever."

More than 250,000 concert goers gathered on Brighton Beach in July 2002 for Fatboy’s Beach Boutique 2.

The crowd was more than four times the expected size, and at the time, doubled Brighton’s population.

A year earlier, about 40,000 people attended the first of the Big Beach Boutique events.

Big Beach Boutique 5 was held at the Amex stadium, with two gigs on consecutive nights in June 2012.

Earlier this week, Fatboy, 58, launched an appeal to find the Hawaiian shirt he wore at the gig so it can be displayed in an anniversary exhibition.

Artists including Andy C, Sub Focus, Wilkinson, Shy FX, Dimension, Friction and Harriet Jaxxon have already been announced for the festival.

More musicians and the exact location of the festival are to be announced soon.

Tickets to enter the festival on Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24, are on sale now.
