AT LEAST four people were left injured after a "serious" crash involving two vehicles.
The crash, which happened on the A272 at Cowfold near Horsham, was first reported at around 11.30am yesterday.
Two air ambulances were called to the scene, along with road ambulances, the fire service and police.
The road was closed off and remained closed all evening while Sussex Police investigated the incident.
Pictures from the scene show at least 12 emergency services vehicles on the stretch of road.
It is unclear whether the air ambulances were needed at this stage and if the people in the accident are okay.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Emergency services are responding to a serious collision at Cowfold today, March 28.
“The collision involving two vehicles was reported at 11.30am.
“Motorists are advised that the A272 between Buckbarn and the junction with the A281 at Cowfold is currently closed while we respond to this incident.
“We will provide further updates in due course.”
A spokeswoman for South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said: "We were called to a serious road traffic collision on the A272, between Cowfold and West Grinstead, at about 11.30am, Monday, March 28.
"A number of resources were sent to the scene including two air ambulances.
"Four people were reported injured at the time of the call. We have no further updates at this time."
There was congestion on Shermanbury Road in Partridge Green as people diverted away from the A272 road closure.
