POLICE have issued an update following a brawl in a café which saw a man and a boy arrested on suspicion of assault.

The “altercation” happened around 1pm on Tuesday, March 29 at a café in Clinton Place, Seaford.

Several police cars could be seen on the A259 Sutton Road with a police cordon stretching 30 metres down the high street along the pavement.

One passerby said someone was pushed into the café window.

Drops of blood could be seen both inside and outside the police cordon, where several officers were in attendance.

The cordon remained in place all afternoon and into the evening while forensic investigators collected evidence along the pavement.

A 42-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of assault and have been released on conditional bail until April 25, pending further police enquiries.

The Argus understands the pair were arrested on suspicion of assault on another person or persons. Sussex Police have not confirmed the age or gender of the victim or victims.

A Sussex Police spokesman said at the time: “Police responded to a report of an altercation at a premises in Clinton Place, Seaford, shortly after 1pm on Tuesday, March 29.

“Officers from the Lewes District Response team arrested a 42-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy. Both remain in custody at this time.

“Witnesses or anyone with relevant footage is asked to report it to Sussex Police online or call 101 and quote serial 581 of 29/03.”

Another update today confirmed that enquiries were ongoing.

The spokesman added: “A 42-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy who were both arrested on suspicion of assault were released on conditional police bail until April 25, pending further enquiries.”
