AN INDEPENDENT film which was being shown for one night only has been given another screening date after its positive reception.

On The Other Foot is a comedy about a racist taxi driver in London who is shocked when his daughter dates a black man.

They convince him to attend an African church to embrace her partner’s culture.

The twist? He miraculously wakes up the next morning in a black person’s body and finds himself literally on the other foot with the same skin colour as the people he detests.

The film is produced by Jason Devil, who has lived in Hove for five years.

The former security guard for stars such as Rihanna, Will Smith and Timbaland, teamed up with his cousin Fredi Nwaka, who is director of the film.

Jason said the career of being a bodyguard was not a long-term option for him so started his business Devil1 Entertainment in 2010.

It offers security on film and TV sets, with one of the most recent jobs during the filming of ITV’s Grace, which was shot all around Sussex. But now he is focusing on producing films and even wants to build a studio in Sussex.

Jason said: “We did really well, now the film is being shown in Manchester, Birmingham, Brighton and three locations in London.

“For an independent film, we had no advertising. We didn’t have any posters in cinemas or anything. It was just done by the people marketing it for themselves.

“I’m so happy it’s going in the cinema again. Hopefully we do really well again.

“With other films about racism, people often leave angry or upset, this film shows it in another way and has a strong message but in a light-hearted way.

“Fredi came to me and told me about what he was doing, I said I was interested and would help put money in. I saw the potential of this film and decided to put the money into it.”

The film is being aired on Wednesday, April 6, at Odeon in West Street, Brighton. For more details, visit Odeon’s website.
