AUTHOR Peter James has called on people to support The Argus’ campaign to raise money to support those affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The Brighton-born writer, whose Roy Grace series has been made into a television show by ITV, said that donating to the campaign offers people the opportunity to help those impacted by the Russian invasion in “a small but vitally significant way”.

He said: “The war in Ukraine has been heart-breaking to watch, hear and read about and has touched the emotions of so many of us.

“It has felt like we are powerless in the face of something so dark - perhaps something we never believed we would see in our lifetimes, but at least with donations from all those who can and are able to give, we are able to help in a small but vitally significant way.

“We have been reading in The Argus about people here in Sussex who have been both affected by the Russian invasion and who are doing their best to help.

“Through this campaign, the money will go towards helping desperate people who have been so badly affected.”

Over 4.1 million refugees have fled the country since the war erupted in late February, with an estimated 6.4 million people displaced within Ukraine.

More than £26,000 has been donated to our #ThereForUkraine appeal since it launched last month, with money going towards the British Red Cross’ Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

The Argus has reported on people in Brighton and Hove and across Sussex who have been affected by the war, revealing how close to home the conflict is.

Your donation could help someone affected get food, water, first aid, medicines, warm clothes, and shelter.
