A FORMER Sussex Police officer is to replace Cressida Dick as Metropolitan Police Commissioner.

Dame Cressida quit in February when the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said he had lost confidence in her leadership.

She will officially leave her role on April 10.

Her current deputy Sir Stephen House will take over in the interim until a new Met chief has been appointed.

Sir House joined Sussex Police in 1981 and was part of operations responding to the IRA bombing of The Grand in Brighton in 1984 and the miners' strike of 1984–85.

In 2018, he was appointed the new deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service following the retirement of Sir Craig Mackey.

Dame Cressida will take unused annual leave after 10 April, with her last day of employment being 24 April.
