A CAR was left crumpled and debris strewn across the A21 following a serious collision.

Pictures from the scene show police beginning an investigation after a car overturned in the early hours of this morning.

Debris, including parts of the vehicle, could be seen scattered across the road near where the car came to a halt.

The car appears to have had its roof crumpled in the incident.

The Argus:

Two fire engines and an air ambulance attended the scene of the incident, which happened just before 2am on the A21 at Silvermere in Hastings.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue said five men were involved in the crash.

The A21 London Road remains closed in both directions between Church Lane (Robertsbridge) and Silver Hill (Hurst Green) as an investigation into the collision remains underway.

A diversion is in place on the B2244 from Sedlescombe to Hawkhurst and A268 back onto the A21 at Filmwell.

A spokesman for National Highways described the incident as a "serious collision involving an overturned car".

He said: "Sussex Police remain on the scene carrying out complex investigation work. National Highways contractors are also in attendance to assist with traffic management."
