CRIME numbers in one area of a city have reached their lowest point in years.

Just 58 crimes were reported to Sussex Police in the London Road area of Brighton in February 2022 – the fewest recorded across three years of available data.

The most common incidents were violence and sexual offences, with 13 cases reported.

Despite the initially encouraging data, Sussex Police said it is cautious when sudden anomalies occur.

A spokesman for Sussex police said: “While it is encouraging that the number of reported crimes has decreased in February 2022, there are always a number of factors which influence the reporting and levels of crime in any particular area.

“We continue to focus on responding effectively to crime and antisocial behaviour alongside our partners and encourage anyone who experiences or is witness to a crime to report it.”
