TRIBUTES have poured in for a punk icon who passed away after a short battle with cancer.

Jordan Mooney, real name Pamela Rooke, died in her home town of Seaford surrounded by family at 9pm on Sunday, April 3.

The “Queen of Punk” succumbed aged 66 to a “relatively rare form of cancer known as cholangiocarcinoma” which is cancer of the bile duct.

The fashion icon was well-known within London’s punk subculture with her sense of style and dressing – a bleached, platinum-blonde haircut and dark raccoon eye makeup.

She worked with fashion designer Vivienne Westwood and was also seen at many of the early Sex Pistols performances in the 1970s.

The majority of tributes remembered Pamela from her time working at Beechwood Veterinary Surgery in Stafford Road, Seaford. She worked there for the last 30 years.

Jennifer Rigelsford said: “She was a wonderful lady. So good with my pets at the vets. Lost a really beautiful soul there.”

Zach Tidy said: That’s terribly sad news, definitely was an absolute punk icon and then years later remember her in the vets in town. Thoughts are with all her loved ones.”

Jenny Tidy added: “Pam has been one of our real characters around Seaford.”

Baz Thompson said: “Another Chyngton legend taken far too soon. Condolences to her family.”

Meanwhile, Geoff King said: “Very sad news. I only knew her from her days at the vets in Seaford, she was always so kind and helpful.”

On Monday, her family released the following statement: “It is with the greatest sadness that the family of Jordan Mooney are announcing that she has passed away at the tender age of 66.

“She died peacefully a stone’s throw away from the sea in her hometown of Seaford, East Sussex in the company of her loving family at 9pm last night (Sunday 3rd April).

“Jordan (Pamela Rooke) has left her mark on this planet, whether it be as ‘The Queen of Punk’, or for her veterinary work and countless prize winning cats. She lived life to the full and was true to herself and others throughout the whole of her life. She was totally trusted and respected by all those who knew her.

“Jordan was a blessed rare individual indeed. She did not want any speculation regarding her passing, and wished for the world to know that after a short period of illness, she succumbed to a relatively rare form of cancer known as cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer).

“Jordan was a wonderful woman and will be remembered for countless decades to come.

“The Rooke family have requested time to grieve their loss and would ask everyone to kindly respect this – thank you.”
