A MAN has been arrested as part of a police operation to crackdown on vulnerable people’s homes being used in the supply of drugs.

Officers carried out welfare checks on Monday, April 4, after receiving a report of a woman being robbed at her home and arrested a man on suspicion of robbery.

Sussex Police initially received the report on Friday, April 1 before identifying the man and arresting him in Queensway, Brighton.

The man has been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.

The arrest comes one week after a “quantity of suspected drugs” were seized and three people were arrested for drug-related offences on March 28, also in Queensway near Sutherland Road.

A 64-year-old man was arrested in the street on suspicion of possessing cocaine with intent to supply, while a 55-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of cocaine.

Operation cuckoo involves checks on vulnerable people deemed to be at risk of exploitation and 'cuckooing' - the practice of criminals using the homes of vulnerable people as a base to supply drugs from.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “On Friday, April 1, police received a report of a woman having been robbed at an address in Queensway, Brighton.

“A suspect was identified and on Monday (April 4), officers carrying out welfare checks as part of Operation Cuckoo in Queensway arrested a man on suspicion of robbery.

“He has been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.”
