THE Conservatives' scrapping free TV licences for over-75s will cost nearly one billion pounds and should be looked at again, in my view The Argus, April 8.
While many pensioners may still be able to afford to pay the extra £159 a year, many will not and will have to go without a TV.
This cannot be right. I am not surprised to read that the south east is the hardest hit region in the country, as it attracts the most pensioners.
With the cost of living going up at an alarming rate, I think the government should look at this concession for over-75s again and re-introduce it.
The BBC should also be supporting pensioners on this issue. They have given much in their lives and do not ask for much in return.
Making TV unaffordable for the over-75s is just mean, in my opinion and should be scrapped.
