A COMMUNITY swimming pool has announced its “longest season ever”.

Pells Pool in Brook Street, Lewes will be open for six months of outdoor swimming from April 30 to November 4 this year.

The 160-year-old pool has managed to open in “difficult circumstances” over the last two years due to the pandemic, but is hoping for a restriction-free season this year.

Children under five will get free entry to the pool for the 2022 season but must be booked in and supervised.

Prices range from £3.50 for adults in early morning sessions, to £4.50 for afternoon three-hour open sessions, £4.00 for evening open lane sessions and £2.00 for children aged five to 15.

Meanwhile, the outdoor pool is offering its “swim saver passes” which have replaced annual season tickets.

Prices range from £40 for 15 sessions for adults, to £150 for 100 sessions. While children between five and 15 can get ten sessions for £15.

The management has also announced dates to keep in the diary.

Phil Ransley, pool manager, said: “Our volunteers’ weekend will be held on a single day this year: Saturday April 16 from 10am to 4pm. Please come and help us with your gardening tools and paintbrushes. All welcome.

“Swim saver passes will be available to buy from the kiosk or online from volunteers’ Saturday onwards. Tickets will be released for sale throughout the season in a three-week rolling programme, also starting Saturday April 16.

“The annual mid-summer madness event will take place on Saturday July 2.

“There will be two Midnight Swims this year, on Saturday, July 9 and Saturday, August 6.

“The autumn season officially ends on Friday, November 4 but the special bonfire morning swim will be back by popular demand, returning for a second year on Saturday, November 5 from 11am to 1pm.

“Wet suits are never compulsory but they’re useful to beat the chill factor.”
