NEW AFFORDABLE homes are set to be built in a former business park as a town fights the housing crisis.
Ten prefabricated terraced houses will be built in Beach Road, in Newhaven.
The three and four-bedroom properties will all have private gardens, as well as off-street parking with electric vehicle charging points.
Alex Bateman, head of planning at Mohsin Cooper, the scheme’s planning consultant and architect, said: “There is a national housing crisis and an even more acute need for affordable homes.
“Schemes like this, which will employ local contractors, have an important role to play in tackling the crisis and increasing housing supply across the region.
“It was a pleasure working with Lewes District Council to address any concerns and to develop a scheme which provides much-needed, low-cost housing.”
The scheme is intended to “regenerate” the currently vacant site, and introduce a “progressive, quality design that will enhance the character” of the area.
It is also said that the construction method is designed to use as few materials as possible, to minimise waste and cause minimum disruption to current residents.
Work on the project is due to begin in 2023.
