A 39-YEAR-OLD woman who headbutted another  in a village pub before grabbing her by the hair and smashing her face into the floor has been found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Louisa Lyons, of Buck Hurst Road, Telscombe Cliffs, was found guilty following a trial at Hove Crown Court.

The court heard Lyons had been dancing "flamboyantly" in the bar of the Telscombe Tavern on August 17, 2019, and had "bumped into" Nicola Butson, who was enjoying a night out with her husband, Michael.

When asked to describe the events that evening by Gareth Burrows, prosecuting, Mrs Butson had said she and her husband were being interrupted by Lyons' dancing.

She said her husband had spoken to the 39-year-old and asked her to "stop bumping into" his wife.

Mrs Butson said there was then a dispute between her husband and another man who was with Lyons.

“I remember turning round and [Lyons] was coming at us with a fire extinguisher,” Mrs Butson told the court. “She then headbutted me and I fell on all fours. She then grabbed my head and smashed my face into the floor.”

The jury at Hove Crown Court had been shown CCTV footage of Lyons taking the fire extinguisher from the wall of the pub before returning with it to the dancefloor. Footage then showed Lyons grabbing Mrs Butson by the hair and smashing her face into the floor of the pub.

Lyons will be sentenced on July 1.
