A MOTORCYCLIST has died, and woman is in a critical condition following two separate crashes.

It was a bleak bank holiday weekend on Brighton and Hove’s roads, as emergency services responded to two serious collisions, with one being fatal.

Sussex Police confirmed a motorcyclist was killed during a crash in Fox Way, Portslade, at 4.35pm on Saturday.

The road was closed in both directions while paramedics treated the motorcyclist, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second motorcyclist suffered a leg injury in the crash.

Photographs taken at the scene show several police cars attending the incident, as well as the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) and the air ambulance.

An AA traffic update said: “Road closed and slow traffic due to serious crash, a car and a bike involved on Fox Way both ways from Henge Way to Thornhill Rise.

“The air ambulance has been on scene after the crash around 16:30.”

Police are appealing for anyone who saw what happened, or who may have captured any relevant dash cam footage, to contact them online or by calling 101 quoting Operation Euston.

The news of the motorcyclist’s death comes just weeks after Dan Kinsella, from Brighton, was killed following a crash while riding his bike on the A259 in Portslade.

In the early hours of Easter Sunday, emergency services were called to Kings Road, Brighton following reports of a crash involving a blue BMW car and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a 28-year-old woman, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in a critical condition.

The road remained closed overnight while officers worked to clear the scene.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Officers investigating the collision would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened, or who may have captured any relevant CCTV or dash cam footage from the area.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police online or by calling 101 quoting Operation Autumn.”

Elsewhere on the roads, officers closed Beacon Road, Ditchling, following a crash, reportedly involving a motorcycle and a bicycle.

Drivers were advised to use alternative routes while police deployed drones to assist with their investigation.
