A BMW driver has been caught speeding at 106mph.

A Brighton and Hove road policing unit caught the motorist driving on a road in Brighton at 1.04pm on Monday, April 18.

The woman was spotted by police using her phone while driving.

After she was pulled over, it was established she was also disqualified from driving.

A photograph shared by Police Constable Pete May shows a speed gun with 106mph on the screen.

“Another busy day on Operation Downsway,” PC May said.

As part of Operation Downsway, officers from the Sussex Roads Policing Unit provide education and enforcement with two main aims - to target offenders and to keep everyone safe on the roads.

The operation often includes patrols on sections of the A29 and A272 in West Sussex and both proactive patrols and static check sites in areas identified by communities as having concerns for road safety.

Later on Monday, Police Constable May said a motorcyclist also was pulled over for excessive speed and dangerous overtaking while travelling north on the A23.

“He tested positive for cannabis,” he said.
