RAIL passengers across Sussex will be relieved that all of the engineering works on the railways are over for now, but I suspect far from over completely (The Argus, April 19).

With most of the main lines in and out of London affected, this meant travelling by rail was out of the question, causing major disruption. There seems to be engineering work every weekend on main lines.

I always think it is a great pity that these works have to be done when passengers want to get away to see friends or loved ones or just get away for a few days break.

It is a very difficult decision for Network Rail to make, but the works have to be done when most people, especially commuters, are not travelling for a few days.

Let us hope that when the work is complete, passengers will see a great improvement in services with all of the money that is being invested by Network Rail. If they do, this will make all of the disruption worth it in the long-term.
