Arun District Council bosses are right to defend their weekly refuse collection which is being dumped across Sussex in favour of a fortnightly collection (The Argus, January 28).
The fortnightly collection has proved very unpopular with residents who often see rotting food and other waste outside their home for nearly two weeks. This creates a serious health hazard by attracting rats and flies in the summer months.
Great improvements have been achieved, which the council has acknowledged and I believe that weekly collections are the best way.
Other local authorities should take heed at what has been achieved in the Arun district and reintroduce similar schemes.
