TWO men have been arrested after items worth thousands of pounds were stolen from a car showroom.

The Audi showroom in Edward Street, Eastbourne, was burgled at about 5.20am on Tuesday, April 19.

Electrical items including laptops, iPads and iPhones were stolen.

Police said as soon as the alarm was raised, officers obtained relevant CCTV and quickly identified a vehicle of interest.

The vehicle was tracked and stopped near Gatwick Airport, and a 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and drug-driving.

Officers swiftly identified a second suspect through their ongoing enquiries, and a 58-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of burglary.

A bin store in Pembury Road was searched and some of the stolen items were recovered from inside.

Both men were interviewed and have been released on conditional bail while the investigation is ongoing.

Inspector Rachel Barrow said: "Business crime is not a victimless crime. Theft and burglary offences can have a serious financial impact on a business and subsequently, the people who work there too.

"Thanks to a swift response and early intervention from our Neighbourhood Enforcement Team, we were able to identify and arrest two suspects and recover some of the stolen property.

"Some of the items are still missing and we are appealing for anyone with information that could assist our investigation to please get in touch."

Any witnesses or those with information are asked to contact police online or by calling 101, quoting serial 279 of 19/04.
