THE RSPB have released a list of events for people to come and enjoy the Dawn Chorus in Sussex.

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds has announced several events over the coming months in which bird watchers can come and see the Dawn Chorus.

The dawn chorus occurs when birds sing at the start of a new day.

Late April through to early June is the best period to hear, when most species are singing well.

On Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1 at the Pulborough Brooks nature reserve visitors are invited to the Dawn Chorus weekend “early opening” anytime after 4.30am.

A team will be manning birdsong hotspots on the reserve and the café will be open for tea, coffee and breakfast baps. Parking charges (£3 per vehicle) and nature trail entry charges (£4 per adult) apply. RSPB members are free, but donations are welcome.

Guided walks will also be available at the reserve whereby visitors arriving at dark are led around the reserve to hear performances by the nightingales, before heading back to the visitors centre for refreshments.

The walks will be available Saturday, April 23 and Wednesday, May 4 from 4.30 am to 7.30 am. It costs £30.50 per adult (RSPB members £24.50) and booking is essential

The not-quite dawn chorus at RSPB Pulborough Brooks will also be available for those who do not want to wake up early, visitors can attend between 7am to 10am on Saturday, May 7. Cost: £30.50 per adult (RSPB members £24.50) Booking essential
