COMMUTERS and travellers are set for a weekend of train disruption as engineering work takes place on tracks across the county.

Gatwick Express services will be suspended and Southern services between London Victoria to the south coast and Thameslink services between Peterborough and Brighton will be affected as work takes place between Earlswood and Three Bridges.

Some lines between Earlswood and Balcombe will be closed all day by engineering work, causing more delays for train-goers.

Further engineering work tomorrow will cause significant disruption to train services, with rail replacement buses operating on the following routes:

  • Brighton and Worthing
  • Worthing and Littlehampton
  • Brighton and Littlehampton
  • Shoreham and Littlehampton
  • Hastings and Ashford International
  • Hastings and Ore

Work between Arundel and Littlehampton will close some lines on Sunday, with London Victoria to Littlehampton services starting and terminating at Brighton, and services from Brighton to Southampton and to Portsmouth Harbour starting and terminating at Littlehampton.

Services between Brighton and Hove will not run.

Train operators have advised customers to check before they travel and plan their journey.

Further disruption is expected for the May bank holiday weekend next week, with an amended timetable for Thameslink services between London Bridge, Gatwick Airport and Brighton between April 30 and May 2 due to signalling upgrades.
