The government has set a deadline of 2030 to change from fossil fuel cars to electric cars, though with the exorbitant price rise in petrol and diesel, many must be looking at changing to electric cars.

But as I have repeatedly warned, how will we be able to charge an electric car. when there are no practical solutions for the majority of the residents that living in flats and terraced houses in Brighton?

They will not be able to achieve this without falling foul of the city’s planning department.

Is this in their grand plan of finding more ways to procure extra revenue from us residents ?

We have all experienced to our cost, how this gullible and naive city council cannot see the problems they are creating in their pursuit of extracting as much money out of residents as they can, as they have misspent money on their pet projects: The doughnut on the stick, and Valley Gardens.

These have gone well over budget and as yet, have not lived up to their high expectations.

If the money used from parking permits were used to get this city ready for that changeover from fossil fuel to electric cars, then many would not object.

But from past experience, we have not had a city council that has any capability or foresight to get anything practical up and running.

Let's look at what faces the majority of Brighton residents, as most live in terraced houses with no access to a garage, with no guarantee of even parking in front of their own houses.

If this city council can fine anyone £100 for dropping a cigarette end, for fear it will trip someone up, what would be the penalty for someone using an extension lead trailing across pavements outside their house when charging their car?

And just imagine when everyone has an electric car, how many leads will be draped across those at one given time.

The feeble attempt by this city council to instal some charging points, that will be scattered here and there is very thoughtful but so inadequate, especially with the slow pace that this city council proceeds with any of those types of dealings.

The government must look to extend the goal post to 2050 in order to allow this type of local administration to catch up.
