A HOUSEBUILDER has bought a 23-acre site to build 118 new homes.

Cala Homes has acquired the former agricultural site in Broad Road in Hambrook, near Chichester, just off the A27.

The land has full planning permission in place which was granted in November 2021 for 118 new homes, 36 of which will be affordable.

A new public open space, children’s play area, and community centre will also be delivered.

Cala intends to deliver a mix of one to four-bedroom starter and family homes.

It aims to have strong sustainability and biodiversity credentials, with 40 per cent of new homes to be fitted with solar panels, and all units providing EV charging points.

The open space will bring biodiversity net gain, through a diverse strategy including ponds with reed beds, wild grass, retained hedgerows and trees, plus an orchard.

New routes for pedestrians and cyclists will better connect the site to the village of Hambrook.

Alistair Currie, senior land manager, Cala South Home Counties, said: “We have a wide scope of capabilities and skills at Cala.

“Transforming former agricultural land in Hambrook reflects our ability to adapt our approach and ensure the appropriate techniques are used to deliver value and quality within a new community.”
