THE DEATH of a person who died after being hit by a train is not being treated as suspicious.

A body was found on the train tracks at Goring-by-Sea railway station on Tuesday, April 26.

All railway lines were blocked between Worthing, Littlehampton and Barnham due to the incident.

British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed that a person was fatally hit by a train.

“Officers were called to Goring-by-Sea railway station at 11.23am following reports of a casualty on the tracks,” a BTP spokesman said.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

A Southern Rail spokesman previously said: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between Worthing and Littlehampton / Barnham.”

All lines were closed between the stations while the emergency services were at the scene.

Trains which usually run between Worthing and Arundel, Barnham, Littlehampton and Angmering were severely disrupted.

Last week, all railway lines between Brighton and Gatwick Airport were blocked after a person was struck by a train at Preston Park station.
